Diplomats Visit State Treasury No. 1 of the National Bank of Ukraine

On Friday, 6 February 2026, the GDIP Media Сenter organised an educational tour of State Treasury No. 1 of the National Bank of Ukraine for representatives of foreign diplomatic missions. Staff from the embassies of Australia, Canada, Greece, Montenegro, Moldova, Poland, and Sweden, as well as the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in Ukraine, participated in the tour.

During the visit, the diplomats examined displays outlining the National Bank of Ukraine’s initiative to rename the Ukrainian small-denomination coin, the kopiyka, as the shah. This step aims to restore the historical continuity of Ukraine’s monetary tradition and reduce russian influence within the country’s financial system.

The participants then explored the exhibition in Treasury No. 1, which houses collectable and foreign coins, rare jewellery and ornaments, precious stones, and gold bullion forming Ukraine’s gold and foreign currency reserve. The State Treasury’s vault serves as a unique space for preserving material heritage while reflecting Ukraine’s history.

The visit to one of the capital’s most exquisite administrative buildings left a strong impression on the guests: encountering works of jewellery from different eras combined with a deeper understanding of Ukrainian statehood and its contemporary transformations.
