Premiere of the documentary Family Album, directed by Maryna Tkachuk

Your Excellency,

We are pleased to invite you to the premiere of the documentary Family Album, directed by Maryna Tkachuk. The film depicts terrible parallels between the Holodomor (famine orchestrated by the USSR) events of 1932–33 and the current russian war against Ukraine.

The film tells the story of Austrian engineer Alexander Wienerberger and his great-granddaughter, British photographer Samara Pearce. In 1933, Alexander Wienerberger managed to secretly photograph the victims of the Holodomor in Kharkiv. His photographs remain some of the few credible pieces of photographic evidence documenting the genocide committed against the Ukrainian people. In 2023, Samara Pearce visited the towns and villages of the Kharkiv region that had witnessed the russian occupation. With her camera, Ms Pearce captured the crimes committed by russians in the 21st century. This is how the Family Album film intertwines history and the present to tell the world the truth about russia’s intention to destroy the Ukrainian people — the real reason for russia’s war against Ukraine.

Additionally, the premiere will feature a display of the historic Leica camera and unique photographic evidence of the genocide against Ukrainians documented by Alexander Wienerberger and Samara Pearce. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the film’s lead actress and creators.

The Family Album documentary was produced by Good Morning Films and commissioned by the State Enterprise ‘International Broadcasting Multimedia Platform of Ukraineє.

Date: 21 November, 6:30 pm — the arrival of guests, 7:00 pm — screening begins.

Venue: Zhovten Cinema, Kinoman Hall (26 Kostiantynivska St).

The screening will be interrupted in case of an air raid alert. The nearest shelter is the Kontraktova Ploshcha metro station.
