Dear Colleagues!
The Foreign Policy Research Institute, with the assistance of the Directorate-General for Rendering Services to Diplomatic Missions, invites you to the roundtable discussion for foreign diplomatic missions, leading Ukrainian mass media outlets, and experts on a topic entitled The Donald Trump NATO Summit: Bottom Line for Europe’s Security, which will take place on Monday, 7 July 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:10 pm at the Media Center Directorate of the GDIP located at 6-А Pyrohova St.
The speakers will discuss the following framework issues:
- From euphoria to reality: What does the outcome of the NATO summit in The Hague mean for Ukraine?
- 0.25% from the 5% of the NATO’s states’ GDP until 2035 towards Ukraine’s defence in lieu of membership in the alliance: an equal trade?
- Is NATO without the US worth keeping, if Europeans are to bear the lion’s share of the costs?
- Article 5 of the Washington Treaty: alive or dead when the strategy of containment no longer works?
- The evolution of NATO’s position on Ukraine: from the ‘war with Russia must not spill over from Ukraine’s borders’ principle to strategic uncertainty in which ‘Russia is not an aggressor, but only a long-term threat’;
- NATO summit in The Hague leaves Ukraine in a buffer zone outside the defences of Europe’s eastern flank;
- NATO as a challenge to building a new defence alliance in Europe;
- Who is able to defend Europe, without or outside NATO?
- Ukraine has a crucial role to play in building a new security architecture in Europe.
