Dear colleagues!
The Foreign Policy Research Institute, with organisational support of the Directorate-General for Rendering Services to Diplomatic Missions, invites you to take part in the roundtable discussion for foreign diplomatic missions, media and professional community entitled UKRAINE 2025: Peace Through Strength or Capitulation Through Weakness? which will take place on 25 February 2025, 11:00 am to 1:10 pm, at the GDIP Media Center at 6-A Pyrohova St. The event will be held online and offline.
Event moderator: Hryhorii Perepelytsia, Foreign Policy Research Institute Director, Professor at the Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy of the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Doctor of Political Science.
The event will involve the following experts:
- Oleksandr MUSIIENKO, Head of the Centre for Military and Legal Studies;
- Volodymyr FESENKO, Ukrainian political analyst, Chairman of the Board of the Penta Centre for Applied Political Studies;
- Pavlo LAKIICHUK, Head of Security Programmes at the Strategy XXI Centre for Global Studies;
- Mykhailo PASHKOV, Co-Director of Foreign Policy and International Security Programmes at the Razumkov Centre
- Oleksandr KHARA, Executive Director of the Centre for Defence Strategies.
The following conceptual issues will be discussed during the event:
- Is a just peace possible without victory, and can victory be replaced by peace, considering that:
*Ukraine’s partners fear russia’s defeat and the outbreak of a Third World War;
*the West does not believe in Ukraine’s victory and is reluctant to strengthen it, ultimately dooming itself to failure alongside Ukraine;
*the West does not demonstrate strength, making peace with russia through force unachievable due to its absence.
- Peace as a mutual compromise through Ukraine’s disarmament, its adoption of neutral status, and a government change via elections.
- Peace through a compromise between Trump and putin on China and the division of spheres of influence in Europe.
- Peace through a settlement with russia by removing Volodymyr Zelenskyy via elections in Ukraine.
- Will Europeans agree to a division of spheres of influence in Europe under a Yalta 2 formula?
- Which three scenarios for Ukraine do you consider the most optimal and likely:
*continuing the war with russia until the latter loses its ability to conduct military operations;
*a ceasefire without any security guarantees;
*peace through Ukraine’s capitulation.
Event language: Ukrainian with simultaneous interpretation into English.
