Pre-holiday workshop titled Christmas Star: The Light of Ukrainian Tradition

The Christmas star stands as a symbol of kindness, light, and blessing that embodies the Star of Bethlehem. In Ukrainian tradition, it has long been regarded as a household talisman, symbolising the sun, life, and family warmth. With such a star, carollers would go from house to house, bringing glad tidings and joy to people.

During the workshop, you will learn about the history and symbolism of the Christmas star in Ukrainian culture and explore the art of working with natural rye straw — an eco-friendly material that carries the warmth of the earth, the scent of summer, and the harmony of nature. Under the guidance of an experienced craftswoman, you will create a traditional home talisman — an eight-pointed star that can be hung above the festive table, in the window, or above the door, used to decorate a Christmas tree, or gifted as a symbol of kindness and peace.

All the necessary items, including rye straw, tools, and decorative elements, will be provided. Each participant will be able to take their finished creation home immediately. The workshop will take place at an exceptional location in the heart of Kyiv, offering a beautiful view of St Sophia Cathedral. The venue is filled with light, inspiration, and creative energy that fosters peace and harmony.

This event will be a wonderful opportunity to experience Ukrainian Christmas traditions, immerse yourself in the festive spirit of warmth and unity, and create your own unique Christmas symbol.
