Sun, sails, and a yacht — there is hardly a better way to spend a summer weekend than on a water journey through the enchanting waters of the Dnipro.
On Saturday, 12 July 2025, for the first time since russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the staff of the Media Center Directorate organised a fascinating journey around the Dnipro’s bay on a sailing yacht with elements of a master class for diplomats, joined by staff from the Embassy of Sweden and representatives of international organisations, in particular, the EU Delegation and the United Nations Office for Project Services in Ukraine.
The river route followed the calm and safe waters of Kyiv’s picturesque natural spot, Sobache Hyrlo Bay. During the trip, foreign guests enjoyed the scenic views of the riverside landscape at the height of summer. For each traveller, the cruise offered a chance to break away from the daily routine and savour the city’s beauty from the deck of a yacht gliding slowly along the waters of the ancient river, while the gentle breeze under the sails brought a breath of coolness.
During the aquatic journey, Serhii Fedorenko, an experienced captain, professional yachtsman, and champion of Ukraine, held a demonstration master class for the diplomats on the basics of sailing. Each guest on board tried their hand at steering the yacht, adjusting the sails and controlling the helm.
The guests also enjoyed seasonal fruit and fine Italian wine, which underlined the atmosphere of harmony with nature, while swimming in the cool water gave them a true sense of freedom and relaxation.
