On Saturday, 2 May 2026, employees of the Media Center Directorate of the State Enterprise ‘Directorate-General for Rendering Services to Diplomatic Missions’ organized a walking tour titled Majestic Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
The group included Luís Cabaço, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Portuguese Republic to Ukraine, and representatives of the Embassies of Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Norway, and Sweden, as well as employees of representative offices: The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the European Union Advisory Mission in Ukraine.
During a guided tour of the preserve, employees of foreign missions learned about the thousand-year history of one of Ukraine’s most significant sacred sites. The participants immersed themselves in the atmosphere of the ancient churches dating from the 12th to the 18th centuries, which form the unique architectural ensemble of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The distinguished visitors explored the spiritual sites of Ukrainian ascetics and heard a fascinating account of the prominent statesmen and military leaders who once looked after the monastery. A special part of the programme was an exclusive visit to the nearby Lavra caves and a climb up the Great Belfry, where Olha Krainia, a PhD in history, gave a specially prepared lecture and guided tour of the site.
The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is more than an outstanding Ukrainian spiritual site: it’s the symbol of the restoration of traditions and our country’s revival and spiritual strength.
